Goals

Now we mention that out of the box Sony’s network adapter only work with the IDE hard drivers, but the IDE hard drivers has been discontinued for many years, its very hard to find a new IDE in the market, it has been completely replaced by the SATA hard drivers. So why do not use faster and large capacity SATA hard drive to replace the IDE hard disk to play PS2 games, it will save a lot of game loading time for us. This tutorial will show us how to mod our Sony network adapter to use a SATA hard drivers.

The things you need

• bitfunx sata adapter board

• Phillips head screwdrivers and a Torx screwdrivers

Steps

First, we need to remove the cover from the network adaptor. We need two sizes of Philips head screwdrivers to do this, one large and one small. The screws which need to be removed are highlighted below. The two screws in the center of the device require the smaller screwdriver.

Below is what the network adaptor looks like with the cover removed. The screws holding the power and IDE connectors are Torx screws, and a size 6 Torx screwdriver will remove them.

After that, remove the IDE circuit board and the Power circuit board. Please be careful when you remove the FPS flat cable.  It is important that we do not use the sony IDE FPS flat cable, you need keep the sony original flat cable away.

Now its time to install the BitFunx SATA circuit board.

We use the Bitfux sata board flat cable to connect the board to the Sony network adapter.

Use the gasket and screws to make sure that the sata board fixed stable and suit for good connection to the sata hard drivers

Assemble the faceplate back
